Plantar Fasciitis – Finally get rid of it!

Plantar Fasciitis or Heel pain

What is it ?

The Plantar Fascia is a shock absorbing ligament which attaches the heel to the front of the foot. Plantar Fasciitis is the thickening and inflammation of this ligament due to day to day wear and tear which leads to anything between slight discomfort and debilitating pain.

What causes it ?

Chances are you have a structure foot problem. Either your foot arches are too high or your foot is too flat. When our foots angles are not aligned and typically aren’t in an ideal position they cant completely balance the weight of the whole body. Ever wondered why some people can balance without their foot or ankles wobbling around and others simply can’t, well it is because of the position their foot is in. When we cant balance our foot tries extra hard to grip the ground which leads to the plantar fascia being severely overworked, not being able to shock absorb effectively thus leading to pain

The two avenues of treatment

The Pain

This simply means treating the symptoms. The aim of this avnue being  effectively trying to reduce pain and swelling. We aim to reduce swelling, increase range of motion and increase strength. The following videos are excellent examples of key exercises that will assist in reducing the pain.

The Cause of Pain

This avenue  treats the underlying issue that is the cause of the pain. The underlying issues which are caused by biomechanical abnormalities that can only be corrected by realignment of the foot and its structures. Sounds very difficult but it is actually a very simple process.

What we do at Arch Podiatry, is we do a full biomechanical assessment which assess your lower limb muscles, tendons and ligaments testing strength and range of motion in order to achieve the ideal prescription for a custom insole.
